Altus Intermediate Update 1-9-23

Altus Intermediate School received extensive electrical damage after the electrical fire today and the majority of the building is without electricity.  The fire was caused by a delivery vehicle hitting a transformer outside of Altus Intermediate School.  

Due to the amount of time needed to receive supplies to repair the damage, Altus Intermediate School will be closed for the remainder of this week and students will be placed on Distance Learning. Students were sent home with work from their classroom teachers.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.  

Altus Public Schools would like to extend our appreciation to the Altus Fire Department, Altus Police Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, The City of Altus Electric Department, and our school resource officers who responded quickly to the RAVE app alert.  We are proud of our faculty, staff, and students for following procedures in a timely and respectful manner.  Although the situation is not ideal, we are thankful there were no injuries. 

Altus Public Schools will continue to provide daily updates until the electricity is restored and students are back in school.
